Minimum Wage Jobs Are Supposed to Suck

A minimum wage job is supposed to suck.

In what universe is flipping burgers at Mickey D’s, running a register at Publix or working at a convenience store worth $15 per hour? Well, I know one, Seattle Washington because that’s the new minimum wage.

The reasoning is that’s it’s a “living wage”, whatever that means. But it misses the point, minimum wage jobs are supposed to suck. You’re supposed to want to find something better and/or hate it so much you’ll do whatever it takes to never do it again. Get training, education or whatever so you don’t have to work in a Mapco at 3 am.

I learned this when I made $1 hour working in a hayfield for my uncle. There’s no better motivation to get an education than to work 12 hours in the Alabama sun for $12. It will motivate you.

So What?

The reason a $15 per hour minimum wage is a bad long-term plan is it will cause a guy to get comfortable and never try to improve. $15 per hour is just enough money to keep them one step ahead of the bill collectors. It’s an average income and there’s nothing easier than being average.

But being average robs a guy of something he not only needs but WANTS, the satisfaction of a job well done. Of knowing he pulled his own weight. There’s something special about the first time a guy has the money to take care of an unexpected bill or is able to pay for braces. At those moments, he knows he’s taken a big step towards manhood.

Now What?

Decide you want more out of life than just being average. Be willing to work for it instead of wanting it to be given to you.

  1. You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation however I find this matter to be really something that I feel I’d by no means
understand. It kind of feels too complicated and extremely
large for me. I am looking forward in your next post, I will
try to get the dangle of it!
